When I first meet with a client, often his or her first request is for help with a specific medium. Sometimes they want to get on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, but don’t know what to do with them. Sometimes they need brochures or ads.
Before I go down the yellow brick road with anyone, I examine their current brand and messaging. Do they even know what they’re saying about the business currently? Do they know what sets them a part? The usual answer when I start working with a small business is, no. My new clients might even have a cool logo, but they have no idea why they’re special even though they want you to think they are.
Here’s a great article on the power of integrated marketing messaging: Business Week – read it here. It applies to all businesses, not just the big boys. All businesses struggle with it but wouldn’t it be nice if it wasn’t you?
I’m a mom, a small business owner, and I’m a marketing professional with over a decade helping businesses with their branding and online presence. When I’m not spending time with my family or on my business, I love cooking (and eating) and snuggling with my dogs while I binge on TV shows. My favorite authors are Malcolm Gladwell and Steve Martin. My favorite movies are L.A. Story, Little Mermaid, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Trainspotting.
